Exposed Bone publishes uncanny fiction, poetry, and occasional other works that wreck our expectations, keep us on edge, and fuck with our thoughts. The project is headed by Scum Hellebore and Shauri Cherie, two dumbasses who sold their souls to the literary journal demons in college.
They met while studying creative writing at Southern Utah University and spent two years working together on Kolob Canyon Review, the university's literary magazine. Scum was editor-in-chief of the project for the 2021-2022 edition, while Shauri took over the role for the 2022-2023 issue. Unwilling to leave the literary journal world after separating from the project, the two of them put their love of literature to use and created Exposed Bone.

Despite being an international journal and encouraging submissions
from all over the world, they currently operate small and would like to acknowledge their existence on the homeland of the Southern Paiute
people and other indigenous peoples.
Submissions
We accept submissions from May 15 to July 15 and publish a physical edition annually in March. Expect a response in August during each judging period, but check our guidelines or social media for any delays.

Check our submission guidelines to see if we're a good home for your work. If you know we're it for you, head to our Submission Manager.

Note that we're committed to publishing and uplifting the voices of those from all racial and ethnic backgrounds, members of the LGBTQIA2+ community, and those from other disenfranchised or underrepresented groups. If you're not alright with that, this likely won't be your piece's home.
